Feeding Farmers in the Field- Poe Farms

Dale and I were just outside of Van Wert at Poe Farms for week two of Feeding Farmers in the Field. We caught Bill & Billy Poe on a little harvest hiatus. They’ve been done with beans for a week, but say it could be another week before they are able to get back in the field and start on corn.

For a complete harvest update from them a little more on their operation, check this out….

Since they weren’t in the field we ended up doing the broadcasting and having lunch in their office. Dale and I aren’t used to such accommodations. Usually we eat in the shop or the back end of a pick up truck. At one time the Poe farm was home to a fertilizer dealership and they use the office built for that as their farm office. It was even equipped with a stove and bed.

Bill & Lisa’s niece Emily Fast actually entered them in the contest. While she’s doesn’t live on a farm herself, through them she has learned to love farm life and I understand hangs out at the farm quite a bit. They’ve been such an influence on her that she is currently pursuing a degree in ag business at Ohio State.

We provide food for 10 people each week, so the winning farm family usually gets to invite some people to join us. Well, Bill called and invited 1st Choice Seed salesman Gregg Adams to lunch, but, well…didn’t mention any details including the fact he had won this contest or that we would be broadcasting from the farm. Gregg walked into the office and wondered what in the world was going on! You would have swore by the look on his face he was on candid camera. We were also joined for lunch by Bill’s mom and dad, his wife and daughter along with his niece Emily Fast and Terry Smith, Donald Morris and Alan Morris.
