On the evening of Wednesday, February 8, members of Zane Trace FFA chapter traveled to Lancaster High School to compete in Agriculture Sales and Job Interview Career Development Events. Career Development Events are contests within the FFA which allow members to take part in difference aspects of agricultural jobs.
Agricultural Sales CDE is a contest in which team members develop an agricultural product, and sell it to the judges, who are posing as potential customers. This contest allows participants to learn a bit about marketing, sales, and product development. Zane Trace’s 2012 Agricultural Sales team included: Whitney Bellomy, Morgan Perhach, Nicole Jordan, and Heather Yeater. Morgan and Whitney developed and sold agricultural lesson plans, while Heather and Nicole concentrated on livestock supplies.
Job Interview CDE allows students to become familiar with the process of obtaining a job. The contest simulates an actual job interview, and also requires the participants to develop a resume, as well as fill out a job application. Additionally, participants must write both a letter of interest before the interview, and a follow-up letter after the interview. This year’s job interview team included Montana Fry and Kasandra Dalton.
All students involved in these contests developed necessary skills for their future life, and gained experience which will put them ahead of competition in the work force when working to obtain a job in the future. Only in FFA would students be able to participate in such a unique and valuable contest.
