State FFA Officer Profile – Sydney Snider

Name: Sydney Snider

Home Chapter: Felicity-Franklin

What state office do you hold? State Secretary

What school do you attend and what year are you? This August, I will be a freshman at The Ohio State University.

What is your major? Food Science

What is your favorite thing to do when you have free time? I enjoy spending time with my family and friends. I also love to watch movies!

Favorite sports team and why: I do not have a favorite professional sports team, but my favorite collegiate team would be the Ohio State Buckeyes! I enjoy watching Ohio State Football and Basketball.

Favorite Movie and why: I have too many favorite movies to pick! But some of my favorite movies include; Footloose, My Sisters Keeper, The Notebook and Temple Grandin. I really enjoy the stories and meanings behind these movies!

Favorite CDE and why: My favorite CDE is probably the Food Science and Technology CDE because it allowed me to discover my interest in the food industry. This CDE is ultimately why I decided to major in Food Science at Ohio State. I was also honored to be a member of the state-winning team this past year for the Food Science CDE. That was a very exciting accomplishment!

What is your biggest fear? My biggest fear is that I will be unable to accomplish my many goals and that I may not end up as successful as I hope to be. I also have a huge fear of storms!

What are your personal FFA goals for upcoming year? I hope to be able to meet many FFA members from across the state. While I hope these members can learn from me, my main goal is to learn from them this year!

What is the best advise you have ever received? “Life is 10% what happens to you and 90% how you react.” I received this advice from my FFA Advisor and it has helped me countless times keep a positive outlook on many situations. This is advice that I use every day and that I try to pass on to others.

What are you looking forward to the most in the upcoming year? This year, I am mostly looking forward to getting to know Ohio FFA members and learning their personal FFA stories. I’m excited to see their passion for agriculture and FFA shine this year!

Why did you join the FFA? I joined FFA because I had had family members in it and it seemed like something I would enjoy. I honestly thought it would be just another organization that would allow me to exhibit livestock at my county fair. I had no idea what it really was and how much it would impact my life! I am so very thankful that I did join because being a FFA member has truly prepared me for my future and has opened up so many doors for me!

Best FFA memory: For my senior FFA trip, we traveled to Chicago for a week. We toured the city on Segway’s, watched The Blue Man Group and went to Sears Tower. We did a lot of things I had never done before so it was a great and new experience for me!  It was the perfect way to end my time as a member of my home chapter!

What are your career goals? I am not 100% sure what I hope to do after college but I know I plan to stay involved with the agriculture industry. I hope a degree in food science will allow me to work for food companies/businesses within agriculture.
