The Ohio Cattlemen’s Association closed its books for the 2010 membership year with a new membership record. Membership numbers for 2010 broke the previous record that was set in 2009. This new record was set thanks to the dedication of past members renewing their memberships as well as the 386 families that joined OCA for the first time in 2010.
“We are very excited that so many of Ohio’s beef producers have again recognized the importance of belonging to OCA,” said Dave Felumlee, OCA President. “Membership is the lifeblood of any organization and our members have done a great job ensuring that the Ohio Cattlemen’s Association is a strong and viable organization for years to come.”
The membership committee is working on securing additional member benefits and incentives for 2011. The committee is proud to announce that the TSC coupon will be continued in 2011, which will give an OCA member 10 percent off a purchase at one of Ohio’s 68 TSC stores.
OCA also announced the members of its 2010 Top Hand Club in August at the end of the 2010 membership recruitment season. The members will be recognized at OCA’s Annual Meeting in January 2011. This year’s Top Hand Club, which includes 15 of OCA’s most active members, was responsible for recruiting 182 new members. Other membership growth was witnessed through the OCA BEST Program, a youth sanctioned show and leadership program, through beef producers joining to participate in OCA’s numerous beef improvement activities and on OCA’s website that began allowing people to join online in 2010.
OCA members can join the Top Hand Club by recruiting five new OCA members. Members are recognized based on the number of new members they recruit. Top Hand Club members who recruited at least five new members include:
• Michael Bihl, Adams County
• Mike Carper, Delaware County
• Glen Feichtner, Crawford County
• Dave Felumlee, Licking County
• Andy Lohr, Crawford County

• Kris & Becky Vincent, Stark County
Jim Campbell, Greene County, again for the second year in a row, recruited the most new OCA members as he signed up 22 new OCA members.
Each Top Hand will be recognized at the OCA Annual Meeting and Awards Banquet and will receive OCA apparel sponsored by Land O’Lakes Feed and Quality Liquid Feeds. Top Hand members will also receive a ticket to an OCA event during 2011.
