Miami Trace/Great Oaks attended 84th State FFA Convention

Recently, on May 3rd and 4th, the Miami Trace FFA Chapter attended the State FFA Convention held at the Ohio State Expo Center. The Chapter attended convention sessions, and listened to three speakers Brooke Gibbs, Jon Petz, and Ryan Best, National FFA President. All the speakers gave great messages, and caught everybody’s attention.

The Judging teams excelled  this year in State Career Development Events. The Agronomy team received 1st out of 30 teams participating and 122 individuals, team member Evan Schaefer(1st) Judith Straathof (2nd), Landon Gibbs (4th), and Rachel McClish  (5th). The Dairy Foods placed 5th out of 35 teams participating and 125 individuals team consisted of Nicole Straathof (15th), Abby Schwenk (18th), Daniella Straathof (23rd), Theresa Elrich (30th), Abby Hidy (45th), and Rebecca Elrich (82nd). The Dairy Cattle judging team placed 3rd out of 73 teams and 272 individuals, team members were Barbara Sears (5th), Sam MacGregor (9th), Josh Mckay (18th), and Tiarra Perkins (39th). The General Livestock team placed 7th out of 150 teams and 786 individuals, team members were Caroline Hughes (20th), Gus Mitchem (24th), Caleb Penwell (27th), and Logan Harvel (29th). The Equine team placed 2nd out of 124 teams and 447 individuals, team members were Abbie Noble (9th), Blake Pitstick (12th), Kayla Kiser (15th) and Tabby Morris (16th). The Meats team placed 2nd, out of 22 teams and 141 individuals team members were Tanner Mick (2nd), Mikayla Mick (3rd), Kayla Clyburn (7th), Jessica Little (12th), Cheyenne Wright (21st), Hunter Hobbs (30th), Heather Johnston (31st), Logan Harvel (33rd), Blayne Toth (35th), Kayla Payton (58th), Montana Born (98th), and Gus Mitchem (106th).

The Parliamentary Procedure team was recognized for winning state. The team consists of Landon Gibbs, Sarah Peterson, Emily Ratliff, Tanner Mick, Daniella Straathof, Jamie Payton, and Molly Garringer. Natalie Miller interviewed as a finalist for the Greenhand Quiz CDE, she was 2nd in the state. Evan Schaefer interviewed as a finalist for Grain Merchandising and was 3rd overall in the state.  Other awards included officers who received Gold Star ratings on their officer books. Brooke Mossbarger received the reporter’s book gold pin, and Daniella Straathof received the secretary’s book gold pin. Hannah Peterson was recognized for being the top individual in the Agriculture Communications CDE.  Also, members that participated in the Agriscience Fair were awarded. These individuals were Hannah Peterson, Evan Schaefer, Katie Frost, Molly Garringer, and Nicole Straathof. Chapter members who received their State Degrees were, Emily Ratliff, Daniella Straathof, Charlie Hiser, Jennifer Frost, Charlie Miller, Melissa Ritenour, and Tori Wilt.

As a chapter we placed 38th in the State out of 350 other Chapters. The three community service projects we put on our application were the blood drive, Fall Harvest Days, and Operation Christmas Child. The Miami Trace FFA Chapter would like to congratulate all members for their hard work over the past year and wish all students participating in upcoming National contests good luck!
