Shane Gardner the son of Dennis and Pam Gardner received second place in the Agriculture Services Proficiency from his hard work and dedication working Gardner Farrier Services. Shane has two brothers, Wyatt, a current FFA members and Matt. Shane says that he was pretty excited to see his hard work paid off. Shane is currently studying at Hocking College for majoring in Farrier Science and Business. While Shane was in school as an FFA member he was involved in Camp, Wildlife and Nature Interpretation.
Casey Schlauch the daughter of Lori Schlauch and Todd Schlauch was elected as the 2012-2013 District 8 President. Casey has a brother Jerrod, a sister Shannon and a twin sister Amanda. Her reaction whenever she was elected the 2012-2013 District 8 President was overwhelmed yet very excited. She says, “I couldn’t really take it all in,” She plans on attending ATI for Agriculture Education and then transfer to main campus to continue my education. Casey was involved in Parli, Ag Sales, Ag Communications, Job Interview, General Livestock Judging, speaking and camp. Casey Schlauch also serviced as the 2010-2011 and the 2011-2012 West Holmes FFA Secretary.
Travis is the son of Charles Wines and Doreena Campbell; he has two brothers Matthew and Jesse Wines. Travis was the winner of the Outdoor Recreation Proficiency for working at Faith Ranch this past summer. Travis will now be competing at the National level; his application will be evaluated this summer. Travis says his reaction when winner was, “I ran into Erin, and then I hugged Jessica, I was very excited but upset for the other finalist. Travis is planning on attending the University of Findlay, for a Pre-Veterinary degree. As an FFA member Travis was involved in a four year, fourth in State Parli team, Horse Judging, and the Chair of the Community Service Committee. Travis is involved in Faith Ranch which is a Christian based ministry camp retreat/ stable on a daily based his duties were to tack, groom horses, keep selves clear and teach guest and campers how to ride.
Aaron is the son of Chris and Julie Clark, and Hidi Truit. He says he was very excited whenever he was named the winner of the Diversified Agriculture Production Placement, the runner up in Crop Production Placement, and the Star State Farmer and Placement for working at Loader Farms and Kick Farms. Aaron will now be competing at the National level; his application will be evaluated this summer. He is currently a sophomore at the OSU ATI were he is studying Agronomy for two years, and plans of transferring to the OSU Main Campus for Crop Science. As a member of the West Holmes FFA Aaron was the 2009-2010 Historian and the 2010-2011 Sentinel.
Garrett is the son of Mark and Denise O’Donnell and he has an older sister Katie Faunce. Garret has been working for Rodhe’s IGA Marketplace for over 3 years. In those years he has worked in numerous different departments. O’Donnell kept accurate records of his time working in the Produce Department under Manager Doug Polen. He kept track of hours worked, income, taxes, withheld, and certain duties and responsibilities each day. He filled out the Fruit Production Proficiency Award and placed first in the District and was sent to State Evaluation. O’Donnell was placed in the top four in the State and at State FFA convention he was named third overall Fruit Producer in the State of Ohio. O’Donnell says, “I was pumped to be a State Finalist and the first Finalist in West Holmes history in the Fruit Production area!” Garrett served as the Vice President of the West Holmes FFA chapter for two years and was a member of the four-time State placing Parli Pro Team, General Livestock Judging team and will be receiving his American FFA Degree in October at the National FFA convention in Indianapolis. O’Donnell is currently a freshman at The Ohio State University ATI pursuing a Bachelors Degree in Agricultural Systems Management to become an Engineering Technician hoping to get a job in the Oil and Gas Industry.
