Two ag industry individuals named to Ohio State Board of Trustees

Ohio Governor John Kasich has appointed two individuals of the agricultural industry to The Ohio State University Board of Trusttees: Brent R. Poreus of Coshocton County and Stacie E. Seger of Shelby County to serve a nine-year term and two year term, respectfully.

Porteus is a managing partner of the family-owned farming and agricultural business, Blair Porteus and Sons. Porteus served as president of the Ohio Farm Bureau Federation from 2008-2011 and prior to that, held many leadership roles within the organization. He also represented the Farm Bureau on trade missions to Cuba and Hong Kong. Since 2011, he has served as a board member of Nationwide Insurance, one of the largest diversified insurance and financial services companies in the world. He earned his BS in agricultural economics from The Ohio State University in 1978.

“Ohio Farm Bureau congratulates Brent Porteus on his appointment to the board of trustees for The Ohio State University. And we are grateful to Gov. Kasich for selecting Brent from among many highly qualified candidates,” John C. (Jack) Fisher, executive vice president of the Ohio Farm Bureau Federation said. “Brent will work to assure that Ohio State University, and its College of Food, Agricultural and Environmental Sciences, continues to be an accessible and affordable educational resource for Ohioans, that it will excel in teaching, research and community outreach and that it will be a driver of economic well-being for the state.”

Seger was appointed to serve as the Undergraduate Student Trustee. A junior studying agricultural communication, Seger and her family run a farrow-to-finish swine and grain farm in Fort Loramie, Ohio. Within OSU, she is a College of Food, Agricultural, and Environmental Science Ambassador, president of the Agricultural Communicators of Tomorrow Club, and an active member of the Saddle and Sirloin Club. She is also an intern at the Ohio Ag Net and Ohio’s Country Journal. As student trustee, she will participate in all Board activities and provide an on-campus, student perspective to board discussions.

“I am very humbled and honored to be appointed by Governor Kasich to serve as The Ohio State University Board of Trustee Undergraduate Student Trustee. I am looking forward to strengthening the University and serving Ohio and our students,” said Seger.

The Ohio State University is governed by a board of 19 trustees who are responsible for oversight of academic programs, budgets and general administration, and employment of faculty and staff.
