The Hiland FFA Chapter participated in the Holmes County Fair this year more than ever before. For example, the FFA Chapter ran the main and side fair gates all day Friday with parent assistance. Hiland also nominated two of their own for the Fair King and Queen Contest, the nominees were Aaron Nisley and Morgan Troyer. Aaron and Morgan won the Attendants position in the Holmes County Fair King and Queen Court.
Hiland FFA Chapter had a booth as always, but this year, the theme was “FFA Is Out Of This World.” Hiland’s side was appropriately decorated with planets, stars and a cow jumping over the moon to capture the Outer Space atmosphere. The booth contained projects that the FFA members made themselves during the school year. Specifically, cornhole boards, work benches and, something never

before seen at the Hiland FFA Chapter Fair Booth, concrete stepping stones crafted by the structural engineering class. The wall was not only decorated with outer space though, there were also pictures of activities that the Hiland FFA Chapter participated in, as well as, posters from the Hiland and West Holmes Fifth Grade Farm Tour Farm Safety Poster Contest.

Another activity that the Chapter members participated in again this year was Animal Projects, including Swine, Poultry, and Dairy. In the dairy barn was Tallie Troyer with her Holstein Heifer. She placed third in the Winter Yearly Class. Hunter Mast placed fifth in the Senior Poultry Showmanship. He was asked questions about chickens, rather than required to show his own chickens, since no poultry were allowed on the Fairgrounds this year. Four FFA members had swine at the fair, the members were Tanner Neuenschwander, Tess Miller, Tallie Troyer and Regina Nisley. In their weight classes the participants places are as follows, Regina was fifth, and Tanner was third. Tallie was first and then she was able to move on to reserve champion in division three. Monday morning was the poultry showmanship, in the evening included the Swine showmanship as well as the King and Queen Contest. Then, Tuesday was the Swine Show and on Friday the Dairy Show was held.
Special thanks to Rhode’s IGA, Wayne’s Saving Community Bank, Wayne’s Garage Door, and Mac Oil for buying Hiland FFA Hog Projects at the 2015 Holmes County Fair.

Hiland FFA Chapter greatly appreciates all of the support from the community that showed up to bid on the Holmes County Youth Fair Projects.
