The Norwayne FFA Chapter took a trip to the 92nd National FFA Convention in Indianapolis, Indiana. We brought 13 members in our school vans and stayed in a house that we rented. On the way to Indianapolis, we toured Abbott’s Candy Factory and got to see how they made their chocolate and caramel. We also got to learn about how their small food business ran their day-to-day operations and factory. There were two sessions during the convention that our members attended as well. Those sessions involved a motivational speech given by Bob Goff and also a retiring address from one of the National FFA officers. Being asked how they thought about the trip, Tim Gunkelman said, “I had such a blast at National Convention, especially at Buckeye Bash. I had fun meeting new members across the United States. It was definitely a trip to remember!”
Our members also got to tour Fair Oaks Farms. While there we got to see their dairy and swine operations and learned how they run their livestock production business using the rotating milking carousel and how they organize their swine from birth to breeding to farrowing. Some other activities that our members had the opportunity to experience were Cinch’s World’s Toughest Rodeo, the Buckeye Bash and Hoosier Trails Horseback Riding.
