North Union’s Food Science CDE team members competed at the sub-district level November 11th at Ridgemont High School. Members of team were Alec O’Reilly, Lilly Taylor, Chris Isler, Caleb Isler, Cammie Shenkle, Morgan Evans, and Bray Wenger.
The top four competitors tallied a total score high enough to earn them the opportunity to advance on to the District competition level held at Highland on November 21st. Those top 4 scores to make up the team at Districts belonged to Caleb Isler, Chris Isler, Alec O’Reilly, and Lilly Taylor.
The Food Science CDE tests a participant’s knowledge of food product development, food presentation, and food safety issues. Participants also use their sensory skills to answer problems and are tasked with a product development scenario to solve. Food science is an area of agriculture that continues to grow.
