West Holmes FFA members compete in 2020 county fair

On Sunday, August 10th, 22 of our members moved their animals into the 2020 Holmes County Fair. This year the fair was changed to a junior fair only as a result of COVID. We are all thankful for our Fairboard for making the fair possible and giving us the opportunity to show and sell! Throughout the week our members exhibited their projects and results are as follows: 

Market hogs: Cody Miller was 8th Overall Senior Showman and 2nd in market class, Cora Crilow was 5th in her market class, Ashley Tate was 3rd in her market class, Chloe Shumaker was 4th Overall Senior Showman and 2nd in market class, Alysa Pringle was 3rd in her market class, Jess Miller was 7th Overall Intermediate Showman and was 2nd in her market class, Tyler Eichelberger was 3rd in his market class, Dakotah Ringwalt was 2nd in her market class, Pacee Miller was 2nd in her market class, Emily Harrower was 3rd in her market class, Zoee Snow was 3rd in class. Other members who exhibited market hogs include Clay Shepler, Samantha Kendall, Ally Ogi, Ethan Feikert, Olivia Gerber, Samantha Kendall, Maren Drzazga, and Laina Croskey.

Market Lambs: Chloe Shumaker was 3rd overall market lamb, and reserve senior showman. Emily Harrower was 3rd in market class. Other members exhibiting market lambs include Cora Crilow and Rebecca Sprang.

Horses: Taryn Grassbaugh and her horse Truman were supreme showman, as well as 1st in Jr./Sr. Pleasure, 1st Sr. Hunter Under Saddle, 1st Trail in Hand, 1st Bareback Equitation. Brianna Lamp and her horse Romeo were 3rd in Sr. Ranch Showmanship, 6th Sr. Stake Race, 2nd Sr. Keyhole, 5th Sr. Flags, 4th Sr. Ball Race, and 6th Sr. Down&Back.

Beef Steers/Feeders: Cody Miller was 5th Overall Senior Steer Showman as well as 8th Overall Market Steer. Chloe Shumaker was the reserve senior showman and had 7th Overall Market Steer. Jess Miller was 4th Overall Intermediate Showman and 2nd in market class. Pacee Miller had the 6th Overall Market Steer and was 7th Overall Senior Showman. Samantha Kendall had the 4th Overall Holmes County Bred Steer and was 3rd in market class. Becca Schuch had the Grand Champion Beef Feeder and was the 3rd Overall Intermediate Showman. Olivia Gerber had the 5th Overall Beef Feeder. Liberty Hendrix had the 8th Overall Beef Feeder.

Beef Breeding: Pacee Miller had the Reserve Champion Heifer.

Market Goats: Cora Crilow had the 9th Overall Market Goat and was 4th Overall Senior Showman. Pacee Miller had the 3rd Overall Market Goat and was 7th Overall in Senior Showmanship. Logan Vansickle had the 4th Overall Market Goat and was Grand Champion Intermediate Showman. Maren Drzazga had the 5th Overall Market Goat.

Broilers/Fancy Poultry: Alysa Pringle had the Grand Champion Pen of Broiler Chickens and was 4th Overall Senior Showman. Becca Schuch had the 4th Overall Pen of Broilers. Logan Vansickle was the Champion Intermediate Showman. Liberty Hendrix was 3rd Overall Intermediate Showman. Cora Crilow also exhibited a pen of broilers. Sarah Irwin had the Grand Champion Fancy Chicken and was Champion Senior Showman.

Rabbits: Zoee Snow was 2nd in class with her market rabbits. Maren Drzazga exhibited a breeding rabbit.

Market Ducks: Alysa Pringle was the Reserve Senior Duck Showman.

Market Turkey: Zoee Snow was third in market class.

Dairy Feeders: Jayme Pennell was the Reserve Senior Showman and had the 4th Overall Dairy Feeder. Dyllan Bender was 3rd Overall Intermediate Showman and had the 7th Overall Dairy Feeder. Maren Drzazga had the 9th Overall Dairy Feeder.

Pygmy/Dairy Goats: Cora Crilow was Supreme Pygmy Showman, champion Sr. showman, she also had Grand Champion Pygmy Doe and Grand Champion Pygmy Weather. Sarah Irwin had first place dairy yearling not in milk, first place aged milker, and was 3rd place, Senior Goat Showman.

Dairy: Rebecca Sprang had the Grand Champion Ayrshire Cow, Reserve Champion Ayrshire cow, Grand Champion Ayrshire Junior Heifer, and the Reserve Champion Ayrshire Junior Heifer. Amy Hughes was the Grand Champion Senior Showman, she had the Grand champion Brown, Swiss Grand champion Jersey, Jr. Champion Brown Swiss, Reserve jr. Champion Jersey, and Supreme jr. Champion Heifer. She had 1st place jersey spring calf, 1st Brown Swiss Spring Yearling, 1st Brown Swiss Fall Yearling, 1st Sr. 2 yr old Brown Swiss, 1st Jersey Aged Cow, and 2nd Holstein Aged Cow. Wyatt Schlaugh was the Dairy Supreme Showman and had the Holstein Junior Champion, 1st place spring yearling, 1st place Sr. 2yr old, Grand Champion Holstein, and Supreme Champion Cow. John Maloney was 3rd Overall Intermediate Dairy Showman and Reserve Junior Champion Holstein.

Award Winners: Ashley Tate was named the Holmes County Fair Queen and the Sr. Citizenship Commissioner Award winner. Becca Schuch was the Jr. Citizenship Commissioner Award Winner.
