Ohio Ag Weather and Forecast, May 15, 2024

Showers linger over Ohio today. We still see coverage as somewhat spotty, though. The best threats of rain will come in southern parts of Ohio, but we won’t rule them out anywhere. Rain totals today will be an additional .1″-.5″ with coverage at 60%.

Thursday turns out partly to mostly sunny. Then scattered showers return for Friday. Rain totals friday into early Saturday turn out to be .25″-1″ with coverage at 80%. The Friday rain potential is shown below.

The rest of the weekend turns out partly sunny and we should stay precipitation free. TEmps will be near normal, which should fuel decent evaporation. Monday stays mostly dry as well, but with clodus increastin late afternoon. Those clouds can trigger some scattered showers and thunderstorms overnight Tuesday night into early Wednesday in northern Ohio. Rain totals can be from a few hundredths to an inch or more, depending on where strong storms set up. We can pinpoint them more as we get closer to the event.

We see a similar set up for strong thunderstorms overnight tuesday night into Wednesday, again in the northern half to third of the state. By Thursday we have a low pressure cell and frontal boundary working in that gives scattered showers and storms to most of the state, with rain totals of .25″-1.5″ and 70% coverage. Late in the week next friday we have a monster round of showers and thunderstorms that may bring rains of half to 2″ to finish the week and start the weekend. This pattern, if if holds as currently seen, means we keep the damp set up on into late May, and we will really start to be challenged on planting. We will continue to hope for pattern change, though.
