Ohio lunges ahead to 20% of corn, 19% of soybeans planted

Ohio farmers made solid planting progress last week as field conditions improved, according to the latest USDA Crop Progress report.

Corn planting in Ohio reached 20% as of April 26, up from 9% the previous week and ahead of the five-year average of 6%. Corn emergence was reported at 3%.

Soybean planting also moved ahead, with Ohio at 19% planted, compared to 9% a week earlier and 7% on average. Soybean emergence was reported at 2%.

Oat planting reached 38% in Ohio, up from 18% last week but still behind the five-year average of 54%. Oats emerged stood at 15%, compared to the 20% average.

Winter wheat was rated 66% good to excellent, with 54% good and 12% excellent. Another 30% was rated fair, while 4% was poor to very poor. Winter wheat headed was reported at 1%.

Ohio had 4.8 days suitable for fieldwork last week, up from 3.9 the week before. Topsoil moisture was rated 63% adequate and 13% surplus, while subsoil moisture was 57% adequate and 10% surplus.
