Farmers continued harvesting winter wheat while monitoring developing corn and soybean crops. Crop progress remained near historical averages, and generally adequate soil moisture supported mostly good-to-excellent conditions across major commodities. USDA reports there were 5.5 days suitable for fieldwork for the week ending July 6.
Corn silking has reached 5%, ahead of last weeks 1%, but trailing just behind the 6% 5-year average. Ohio corn condition was rated 55% good to excellent, with 49% good and 6% excellent.
Soybean blooming reached 14%, ahead of 3% last week, and was behind the 16% 5-year average. Soybean pod setting has reached 1%, just behind the 2% average. Ohio soybean condition was rated 54% good to excellent, with 49% good and 5% excellent.
Winter wheat was 44% harvested, which is behind the 46% five-year average. Ohio wheat condition was rated 70% good to excellent, with 66% good and 4% excellent.
Oats were 81% headed, ahead of the 66% last week, but behind the average of 88%. The condition was rated 87% good to excellent.
Soil moisture has decreased as warmer temperatures covered the state. Topsoil moisture was rated 57% adequate and 6% surplus, while subsoil moisture was also 72% adequate and 6% surplus.
