Precipitation moves across the state from north to south through the day today. Action may have a period of less intensity at midday before we reload for the afternoon, evening and overnight. Rain and a few thunderstorms linger in far southern Ohio near the River through tomorrow midday. Rains over the next 24-48 hours are not all that impressive, but we clearly will not be drying out in areas that are in need of that. Friday turns out partly sunny and dry. Then the weekend features more clouds than sun, with scattered showers possible both days. Sunday looks to have more coverage statewide than Saturday, but we wont rule out precipitation either day. So, with rain potential somewhere in the state 4 out of the next 5 days, the combined precipitation potential from these rounds of moisture shakes out as follows on the map below.
Next week starts with some lingering instability. This will just be enough to allow for scattered pop up showers or storms Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday. However coverage is generally under 40%. The best day for rain likely turns out to be Wednesday in that stretch. There will be plenty of places that miss out on the majority of the moisture to start next week.
We dry down for later next week and keep the dry trend in place through the weekend and then the start of September. We are still seeing potential for some significantly cooler air pushing in toward next weekend and holding through the turn of the month.
