Ohio Ag Weather and Forecast, September 18, 2026

We are extending the moisture in the state another full day and expanding coverage as well, meaning the damp pattern not only lingers, but it expands, in spite of the heat dome farther south. Today we have some lingering showers this morning in central and southern Ohio, fueled by heat based instability. However, by midday we should be precipitation free over the entire state, and stay that way through the overnight and into the first couple of hours of tomorrow morning. A significant round of rain and thunderstorms will be expanding across MI and IN tomorrow morning and will nose into NW OH toward mid-morning. Rain and thunderstorms spread over the rest of the state through tomorrow, Sunday, and remain for Monday and Tuesday. That means we can see an additional 1″-4″ of precipitation combined through the period in Ohio, and we are not able to say definitively that it stays a full north v. south story on the biggest totals anymore. The map below shows our outlook for that 4 day stretch.

We still are looking at a second half of the week next week that has its pattern rest fully on how low pressure exits the region. Right now we are leaning toward a wetter solution that has lingering showers for Wednesday and Thursday, especially in eastern OH thanks to moisture circulating around the backside of low pressure stalled out in the mid-Atlantic to NE US. That moisture looks more impressive east than west, but we have to see how we get through the weekend and Monday before we really see what the atmosphere will support. But, we are changing the focus of Wednesday and Thursday to “wetter”. Friday the 25th through Sunday the 27th will have clouds and some sun, but still a moisture laden atmosphere that limits evaporation some. Monday and Tuesday of the following week look better with mostly sunny skies and good southwest breezes.

A front slides through for the overnight of the 29th through Wednesday the 30th. That front can bring .25″-.75″ with coverage at 75%. But, behind it, we are fully dry, cooler and should see excellent evaporation/drying for 10/1 through at least 10/5.
