March 22 corn almost ready to harvest (Aug. 5 update)

On April 10, 2012 we reported on some of the first corn to come up in Ohio. It was planted on March 22, 2012 in Fayette County. We are going to follow that field along through to harvest. See the field’s complete progress from March 22nd up until now.

This will be the second to last update from the field, because it appears the field may be shelled yet this week. We’ve been following this field all season to see how it would turn out compared to fields planted later. Ironically as of this week it seems to look just the same as other corn in the area planted later.

Ears from the March 22nd corn {August 13th update}

On April 10, 2012 we reported on some of the first corn to come up in Ohio. It was planted on March 22, 2012 in Fayette County. We are going to follow that field along through to harvest. See the field’s complete progress from March 22nd up until now.

These shots were taken about four or five rows in. The other fields in the area have now caught up with this field.

March 22nd corn showing signs of stress {July 18 update}

On April 10, 2012 we reported on some of the first corn to come up in Ohio. It was planted on March 22, 2012 in Fayette County. We are going to follow that field along through to harvest. See the field’s complete progress from March 22nd up until now.

As you can see from the photos, the field is finally starting to show signs of stress from lack of rain.

March 22nd corn just misses storm damage {July 3rd update}

On April 10, 2012 we reported on some of the first corn to come up in Ohio. It was planted on March 22, 2012 in Fayette County. We are going to follow that field along through to harvest. See the field’s complete progress from March 22nd up until now.

We checked in on the March 22 corn field this week after the storms that rolled through over the weekend. As you can see the field fared good considering just 8 miles away in Bloomingburg there was considerable hail damage to the crops there.

Corn planted March 22 is holding its own {June 6th update}

On April 10, 2012 we reported on some of the first corn to come up in Ohio. It was planted on March 22, 2012 in Fayette County. We are going to follow that field along through to harvest. See the field’s complete progress from March 22nd up until now.

Over the weekend, the March 22 field was getting some attention because it was noticeably shorter than the surrounding fields. A couple days later a visit with a camera was made to the field that had somehow caught up with the surrounding corn. The photos taken on June 5 show that the corn is generally looking pretty good.

After a fast start, much of the corn in the region, and around Ohio, is starting to slow down a little.
