Maumee, Ohio

Harvest made significant progress this week.  85% of the beans are run, with yields averaging in the mid 60’s.  Corn harvest is at least 50% complete, with yields averaging around 200+.  The Michigan locations are starting to see some white mold, so they will need to keep an eye out for any possible developments, but otherwise yields have been great.

  Greenville, OH

This has been one of the best weeks for bean harvest – finally!  Beans are likely at least 90-95% complete in our area, and corn is at least 50%.  Yields for beans are running in the mid 50’s to mid-60’s. … Continue reading

Maumee, Ohio

Harvest progress has been slow but the weather finally looks like producers will run wide open til at least Tuesday.  By Monday a good majority of the beans could be off.  Best guess is 30% for both corn and beans, with early yields exceptional.  Most are finding they can ‘price a little bit more than they thought’.

  Greenville, OH

Harvest this week amounted to producers slowly chipping away at corn.  Today finally looks like everyone will put the bean header back on and be ready to run through Tuesday.  By Monday I expect the majority of the beans will be finished.… Continue reading

Maumee, Ohio

Harvest progress has been slow.  Very little was accomplished this week.  Producers will be at it today, but rain moves back in Sunday evening and will halt progress again til Wednesday.  Beans are running in the mid 60’s and are 10% harvested.  Corn is 15% harvested and great yields of 220+ very common.

  Greenville, OH

Harvest was on the slow side.  Intermittent showers slowed bean progress which is around 20% .  Yields are ranging from the upper 50’s to upper 60’s.  Corn is at least 20% harvested with many yields averaging over 200+. … Continue reading

Maumee, Ohio

Harvest is slowly under way.  So far, yields appear to be average to above average.  The corn is pretty wet yet, and it will be a challenge to get it dried down.  Corn is 10% completed and beans 20%.  Rain will keep them out of the fields all weekend.

  Greenville, OH

Corn and beans are both at less than 5% for the area.  Yields on corn are ranging from 150 to well over 240+.  There were dry pockets in the county, and other areas had perfect weather.  It will be interesting to see where the county average ends up at. … Continue reading

Maumee, Ohio

Harvest is still a few weeks out for “full swing”.  Some beans have been run, but according to chatter from the just-finished Farm Science Review.  There will be reports of outstanding yields, but there are areas that ran out of much-needed moisture.  Beans looks great.

  Greenville, OH

The local ethanol plant has been offering a drying premium, and a few producers have been able to participate.  The yields on those fields have been 190 dry, and the farmer is very happy.  It’s not his best dirt so it should only get better.  Very, very few early beans in our area. … Continue reading

Harvest is still at least a good two weeks away.  A few fields of beans have been run, but likely more to “satisfy” the coffee shop talk and to get a first look at potential yields.  Areas in the north central part of the state could run next week, but they came up short on rain the final stretch.

  Greenville, OH

Most everyone had nice rains from the most recent event on Wednesday night.  Amounts ranged from just under an inch to 3+ inches. These last two rains have been extremely beneficial for late beans and to add test weight. … Continue reading

Maumee, Ohio

The NW Ohio region had received excellent rains so, at this point, they are ready to dry down and start harvest. The combines probably won’t start rolling for another good week, depending on the moisture they get with the system that goes through today. Farmers are anxiously awaiting harvest to see what yields are, as they have been in an almost ideal garden spot.  They did have some dryness that may have taken the high end off yields, but they are excited to see the final results.

  Greenville, OH

The rains the last weekend of August changed farmers from grumpy to happy.… Continue reading

Maumee, Ohio

The NW Ohio region is looking good.  They received very timely rains last week.  The earliest of harvest is likely 2-3 weeks away.

  Greenville, OH

After being in dire need of rain, we received amounts of 3+”.  Some locations just west of us in eastern Indiana had amounts up to 10”.  More than the doctor ordered, to be sure!  The corn that ran out of nitrogen a while ago is starting to turn. Very few bean fields have turned yet, so harvest is at least 2-3 weeks away.  The heat is welcome as it is needed to push the crop along.… Continue reading

Maumee, Ohio

The areas along I-80 received a “million dollar rain” this week. Conditions improve.

  Greenville, OH

Rain amounts varied greatly in the county this week. Southern portions in the county had 1-2+ inches, while areas to the north had .3-.5” and some none at all.  In my immediate area, conditions improve, but continued rains are needed each week due to the variance in plant dates for corn and beans.  The crop must have delayed frost and continued moisture.

Logansport, IN

The northern regions in Indiana were very dry and received much needed rains, but parts of Indiana did not receive much rain.… Continue reading

Maumee, Ohio

The NW Ohio region was getting a million dollar rain today. They have been short on moisture and there are likely a lot of signs of relief today. Denitrification is evident in a lot of corn.

  Greenville, OH

The rains have continued to be hit and miss, but Sunday night saw the southern half of the county get rains from .5” to 2.5”.  The corn is shallow-rooted and will continue to need rains every week til the crop is finished.  There is still corn with white silks, but no early frost for corn or beans.… Continue reading

Maumee, Ohio

The corn continues to look very good in most part of Northwest Ohio, and the yield checks are well-above average.  They need to catch a rain to continue good bean development.

  Greenville, OH

The rains have been somewhat “hit and miss” the past week. Locally most received at least a half inch this week, while areas to the south have received none.  The corn is shallow-rooted and rain is a must every week.  The beans have finally kicked in all four burners and look very good. Those August rains will be vital.  (And no early frost).… Continue reading

Maumee, Ohio

The crop in NW Ohio remained unchanged this week – unchanged from “phenomenal”.  The current forecast looks ideal for “fill” and now the big question becomes “WHERE will we put it all???”

  Greenville, OH

The weather has been ideal for improvement for both corn and beans.  The corn does look excellent, and you can’t “see” the uneven or raggedness anymore (til you get in the combine this fall!).  Beans have lagged behind all season, and the drier weather has really helped them gain new life.  The corn is shallow-rooted and we will need timely rains to finish out fill.… Continue reading

Wheat harvest is well under way in northwestern Ohio. Yields have averaged 85-100 and quality is good.  Tasseling is well under way.  Both crops improve, if that is possible.

  Greenville, OH

Wheat harvest will wrap up this weekend.  Yields were good, with most reporting 90-100The corn continues to grow like crazy, and the beans are improving. Loss of nitrogen due to heavy rains is showing up in some corn, and beans planted Memorial day weekend and later continue to  lag behind, but the drier weather has helped.  Both crops improve.… Continue reading

The earliest corn was planted 4-26 and some of that corn is tasseling, but the majority of their corn will shoot a tassel next week.  They look on tap for some heavier rains next week which could mess up wheat harvest.  Corn and beans continue to improve, and they are already phenomenal.  Right now, the yield monitors could be well above 280 in some locations.  Both crops improve.

  Greenville, OH

In the Darke county area, corn really grew this week, and a drier week (for most) has seen beans hopefully turn the corner. … Continue reading

Maumee, Ohio

It is hard to know what to say for this region since it has been so consistent and so good this season!  Is it possible for conditions to improve when they are already fantastic?

  Greenville, OH

It was definitely corn growing weather this week and the corn, overall is really thriving.  However, we have had too much rain and the beans are in dire need of dry weather and sunshine.  Corn improves.  Beans neutral to decline?

Logansport, IN

Truly another garden belt location in the corn belt. Conditions continue to improve for both corn and beans.… Continue reading

The NW Ohio region received a nice coverage of rain this week. Once again, the rainfalls were great. So far, it has been an ideal spring, and last year was bin buster, and this year is on tap to be as good or better. It’s hard to say the crop has improved, when it looks ideal!

  Greenville, OH

Everyone was back in the fields this week and were either finishing planting beans, replanting beans, or spot planting beans, side dressing corn, and spraying.  While rainfall amounts varied within the county, overall most saw at least 1-2+ inches of rain, and the crop condition has improved for both corn and beans. … Continue reading

“In the immediate NW Ohio region, crops “simply couldn’t be better! Overall NW OH is off to one of the best starts, and certainly in line for trend line yields.”  These were the comments from last week, and it doesn’t change much for this week!  The weather forecast looks ideal for next week.

  Greenville, OH

Very few wheels have turned for the past week in Darke county. Last night brought another half inch of rain, and next week’s forecast looks wet most of the week.  There is still side-dressing to be done.  Corn crop has improved, but the beans don’t like wet feet, and could use sunshine and drier weather. … Continue reading

In the immediate NW Ohio region, crops “simply couldn’t be better!”.  There are still producers planting corn in Michigan but they have simply changed the variety.  Overall NW OH is off to one of the best starts, and certainly in line for trend line yields.

  Greenville, OH

In the Darke county area, the county has been almost split between the northern half being wet and the southern half a bit dry. The last rain event was a great rain, and the crops have all really “taken off” and look very, very good. There are still locations in Ohio that are getting the last of beans in, and replanting both crops.… Continue reading

Northwest Ohio will wrap up corn and beans this weekend. The crop is in really great condition. Northern Michigan has struggled this spring, and further north, in Ontario, very little corn has been able to be planted due to excessively wet conditions.

Northwest Ohio is 65% planted on corn and 40% beans.  Our contributor was at a farmer meeting in Flint MI yesterday and they are “as behind as they have ever been” but the forecast has them hopeful and they should get in the fields to run wide open by tomorrow.  They will not switch any acres to beans but will plant corn a few days past the pp date if necessary.  It was noted that Ontario, however, likely has widespread issues and will make a big acreage switch to beans, due to a wet spring.… Continue reading
