Arlington FFA hosts Farm Day

On May 11, 2017 the Arlington held Farm Day, where most of the FFA members brought in either a tractor or some kind of livestock.  On this day Zoie Young and Holly Lee brought their rabbits. Seth Courtney and Dylan Miles brought  calves. Gavin, Caden, and Jared Isenbarger  brought pygmy goats and piglets. Lillian Swails brought her Alpaca. Tyler Vanderhoff brought his mini sprayer. Colin Tobin brought his duck. Tessa Bowling and Ivy Kidd brought their horses. Meaghan Hummell brought her ewe and two lambs. Courtney Fox brought her donkey and her miniature horse.  Brittani Wright brought her chickens. TheFFA Alumni President Mr. Brad Beach brought three different varieties of eggs for the FFA to take care of and to watch hatch. The following individuals brought their tractor’s; Ashley Glick, Chayton Newman, Brayden Bushong, Seth Richards, Colton Kidd, Tyler Rowlett, Bailey Parke, and Blake Bishop. Ohio well-represented in National Soil Judging Contest

Several Ohio FFA chapters had a busy schedule last week with the National Land and Range Judging Contest in Oklahoma where 600 4-H and FFA members gathered.

Austin Wood of the Northwestern-Wayne FFA Chapter said it was a busy one, competing in the OK state before quickly flying back for the last day of the 89th Ohio FFA Convention on Friday.

“Our team placed fifth at state which qualified us to go out there,” Wood said. “We signed in Tuesday morning and we went out and did six pits. That was really cool. The red dirt is completely different than what we do here in Ohio, but a lot of the textures and stuff are the same. The following day, we went out and did two more pits then Thursday was the actual contest.

“We each just went there more as a fun thing for us to do. It was our first year doing this and to me it was just an amazing experience being able to go out and represent our chapter in a national contest.”… Continue reading

Introducing the 2017 class of Student FFA Reporters

Ohio’s Country Journal and Ohio Ag Net is welcoming five student reporters that will be helping cover the 2017 Ohio FFA Convention May 4 and 5. Stay tuned for further convention coverage.

Emily Bookless is a sophomore at Ridgewood High School located in West Lafayette. She enjoys playing soccer and loves to participate in school clubs such as STATS and FCA. She has been affiliated with FFA for two years now and is currently serving as reporter for the Ridgewood FFA Chapter. She likes CDEs such as Parliamentary Procedure, Ag Sales, and Livestock Judging. Outside of school, she shows hogs and llamas. She is also involved with the Kamelid Kushers 4-H Club and the Coshocton County Junior Fair Board.

Kolt Buchenroth is a senior in the Kenton-OHP FFA Chapter and has served as the reporter, president, and is currently the vice president of his chapter. He is also active in 4-H, student council, National Honor Society, and various other school organizations.… Continue reading

Anthony Wayne FFA holds annual banquet

On Monday, April 3rd, the Anthony Wayne FFA Chapter held their annual banquet at Nazareth Hall. At the banquet, members and guests enjoyed a delicious dinner. Following dinner, multiple members received pins to place on their jacket for their participation in CDEs (Career Development Events).

Several chapter awards were presented, including:

  • Star Greenhand member: Reegan Kehres
  • Star Chapter member: Laura Caswell
  • Outstanding Junior member: Haley Schmersal
  • Outstanding Senior member: Camryn Buskey
  • 110% Award: Kalie Anderson
  • Mr. & Miss Volunteers: Patrick Miller and Hannah Mitchell

Additionally, the Les Disher Leadership Award is one of the highest honors that the Anthony Wayne FFA Chapter bestows on its members, and this year Marleigh Kerr received the award.

At the end of the banquet, the 2016-2017 officer team gave Mrs. Short and Mrs. Bockbrader a gift, and the 2017-2108 officer team was installed.… Continue reading
