Feeding Farmers Week One | Jeff Puthoff

The Ohio Ag Net crew team traveled to West Central Ohio for the first of the Feeding Farmers events in 2019. Dale visited with Jeff Puthoff and his family who farms corn, soybeans, wheat, and runs a holstein feedlot operation.

A notable crowd of about 40 turned out to the celebration where the group talked about their wet growing season and crops that are behind what’s been seen just south of the area.

Overcoming challenges during planting | Andy Detwiler, Champaign Co. | 2019 Spring Cab Cam

Andy Detwiler of Champaign County has a story and background in agriculture more unique than most. He has spent a life in farming without the use of his arms after losing them in a farming accident at a very young age. He has since become an inspiration to others in his local community and around the world by not letting anything get in his way, including a difficult planting season. Ohio Ag Net’s Joel Penhorwood caught up with Detwiler Thursday evening ahead of the overnight rain storms as he was rushing to get in corn in the well-drained soils near Urbana.

2019 Spraying Cab Cam | John Davis, Delaware County

While fieldwork in Ohio remains scarce, one unique setup in Delaware County is busy at work. The John Deere Gator of farmer John Davis is braving the mud, covering some much-needed ground with his custom sprayer setup. Davis’ Gator offers not only a sealed cab but also a precision spray system complete with auto-steer and more. He says though they’ve used the setup in previous years, it is truly proving its worth this year, able to cover hundreds of acres a day over fields wetter than most. Anheuser-Busch Columbus Brewery staying busy using Ohio commodities

In this special report, the Ohio Ag Net travels to the Anheuser-Busch Columbus Brewery for a behind the scenes look at how some of American’s favorite beers are made. 2019 Cab Cam | A unique kind of fieldwork in Logan County

Ohio Ag Net’s Joel Penhorwood catches up with Skyler Foos of Integrated Ag Services as he’s out in the field doing some soil sampling in a Logan County field, near Rushsylvania. The two talk the unique equipment and the current status of Ohio farm fields in this video, sponsored by Homan Inc.

“We are doing a high density soil sampling. We are out here in the field doing half acre grids,” said Foos.

He also contributed some thoughts as far as fieldwork progress.

“Down around where we’re from, the Urbana area, guys are getting out in the fields. I know they’ve been working a lot of ground and I even heard somebody planting some beans last week. Things are starting to come around — it’s going to get busy pretty soon.”… Continue reading
